Jahmark is a foundational reggae artist whose journey runs from the vibrant core of 1970s Jamaica to the global stage. As visionary frontman of Jahmark & The Soulshakers, he has spent decades crafting a high-energy, deeply conscious sound — carrying reggae from the Caribbean to Tokyo, Los Angeles and beyond.

The Foundation and the Marley Connection · 1970s–1980s

After fleeing Jamaica's political turmoil in the late 70s, Jahmark landed in Miami, where fate intertwined his path with the Marley family. Befriending Bob Marley's sister Pearl, he became a fixture at Mother B's house, witnessing Bob's late-night songwriting sessions and impromptu jams with the Wailers.

Following Bob's passing, Jahmark became determined to keep Rasta music alive. He cut his teeth in Florida with his early bands Sunray and Rockstone, backing heavyweights like the Mighty Diamonds and crossing paths with world-renowned bassist Jaco Pastorius.

The Global Exodus · From Sunsplash to Tokyo

By the mid-1980s Jahmark had formed the Redemption Posse in New York. A triumphant return to his homeland for the 1986 Jamaica Sunsplash led to an international breakthrough: a Japanese promoter caught their set in NYC and brought them to Tokyo. There, Jahmark & The Soulshakers was born — a high-energy, cross-cultural reggae force. During this prolific era he recorded with Sly & Robbie and Tyrone Downie of The Wailers.

The West Coast Reign

Relocating to Los Angeles in the 90s, Jahmark built the West Coast iteration of The Soulshakers. He shared stages with Jimmy Cliff and Third World, and famously turned a Grateful Dead soundcheck into an impromptu jam session. Never bound by limits, his catalog spans Hollywood soundtracks, the roots double-album Book Of Redemption, and unexpected electronic crossover tracks. In 2020 his uplifting anthem "Happiness" took on a life of its own amid global lockdowns, hitting #1 on international spin and college charts.

Edu-tainment

Across a discography running from 1989's Viva Mandela to 2021's Dubbin' with The Scientist, Jahmark remains a musical healer focused on what he calls edu-tainment. The mission has never wavered: BTPTWSRM — Bringing The People Together With Sweet Reggae Music.
